Established in 2008, the Islington Veterans' Association (IVA) is dedicated to supporting ex-servicemen and their families by commemorating their contributions and sacrifices. We advocate for veterans' needs within the community, engaging in various initiatives such as fundraising for veterans' welfare and preserving their legacy.

The Islington Veterans’ Association was formed in 2008. There had been three British Legion branches in Islington and after the last one closed, various members decided to form a new organisation, to cover the gap caused by the closure of these branches, this was the beginning of the IVA.

The founder members were Col. Brian Kay OBE, Stephan Kasprzk, Peter McCafferty, and Fr. Jim Kennedy.

The aims of the association were very similar to the British Legion, comradeship and help if needed. But the main difference was that it included the families, In recognition of the part they took during wartime and in keeping up the morale of servicemen and women wherever they were posted. As the saying goes ‘keeping the home fires burning’. This, over the years has helped to boost membership of the IVA.

This concept then extended in 2012 to the Blue Light Services and the merchant Navy, this now forms the main bases of the Association today, with member who want to help and support the veteran community also being eligible to join on request, this give a diverse and broad outlook on how we conduct our annual business and event
